Ephesians 4:2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
In Ephesians 4:1 we are called to be worthly of our vocation, which is to rule and reign with Jesus Christ. However verse 2 sets a necessary condition of this calling, humility, strength under control, patience, and self sacraficing love. Without these things, we cannot fulfull our calling in Christ.
These Fruits of the Spirit, as outlined in Galatians 5:22-23 Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Being fruits of the spirit, we need the Holy Spirit to work these works in us as a part of our calling to the most high God.
Perhaps the most notible of the Ephesians 4:2 fruits is “forebearing one another in love”. This is a cousin of the Golden Rule in Luke 6:31 (NIV) “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” And in Galations 5:14 (NIV) “The entire law is summed up in a single command: Love your neighbor as yourself.” This phrase literally means to put others need before your own, because if or in the love of Jesus Christ. This is a very profound and potentially life changing truth that is key to walking worthy of our vocation.
