Unsettling, but True
Here, Paul indicates very clearly that relief may never come in this life. But it will certainly come at the appearance of the Lord Jesus. Such verses should be regularly meditated on by believers. This world is a hard place. It is brutal and relentless. It is merciless and no respecter of persons. Those who endure suffering are those who have prepared themselves for it. The young can rarely relate to this. Their lives are filled with pretense and idealism. They've not been injured like those who have lived a longer duration. The old, on the other hand, are often cynical and dispassionate because of life's setbacks. Thus, we must all meditate on the fact that suffering comes, but simultaneously keep our hearts soft through prayer and bathing in his presence.
