In Hebrew Scripture the word was an agent of creation, the source of God´s message and God´s law. It is also another word for God. John is talking about Jesus here.

Jesus always has been with God. From the very beginning! He didn´t start existing in the moment he was born into this world with a human body. We have to understand that Jesus is the eternal God who has always existed, the Creator and Sustainer of all things, and eternal life. If we can´t believe this basic truth we will not have enough faith to trust our eternal destiny to him.

This vers really opened my eyes. It helped me to understand how important Jesus really is. Only on year ago I really had no idea how empty my life is without Jesus.
