The Curses
There are three curses here, one for each being involved in disobeying God and eating the forbidden fruit.
1. The Serpent: Crawl on his belly and eat the dust. A snakes skeleton actually has a remnant of what scientist believe was once legs. So I am assuming that snakes used to have legs kind of like a lizard. Also snakes smell organ works by collecting dust samples in the air and tasting the scents. Of course there is also a reference here to Satan himself biting the heel of Eve's seed (Jesus dying on the cross) but Eve's seed crushing the head of Satan (Jesus ressurection)
2. Eve: The Woman's pain during childbirth increased greatly. I'm assuming that there must have already been some pain in childbirth just logically speaking as a mother of 5, because the word used here is increased. Believe me He wasn't kidding.
3. Adam: Man would now have to work hard all his life just the etch out a living.
At first glance it seems that Adam got the worse end of the deal, not counting Satan. I mean all the woman got was pain during childbirth. Considering that women used to have a dozen or more children that might be a little closer to Adam's curse but raising children who are now born sinners because of Eve's sin is not exactly a piece of cake. In addition in today's society women often have to share in Adam's curse of working to provide for the family, so it only seems fair to me that the men should share in the Woman's curse by helping out with the kids.
I know a curse is meant to be a punishment, and every time you have to listen to your boss chew you out, or hear your kids throwing a fit you definitely feel it. But in some ways I can see the curse as a hidden blessing. Imagine man, in his now sinful estate, never really having to do too much and having a lot of idle time on his hands. Imagine the wickedness and sinful state this world would be in right now. As it is God had to wipe out almost all of mankind during the flood because of continuous violence and wicked hearts. THANK GOD FOR THE CURSE!
