Philippians 2:2-15 CEV

I looked at this verse through new eyes today. What does it look like when I'm in pain? When I've been wronged? When I'm the recipient of injustice? How can I be the light and love others when I'm suffering?

I found some notes in my journal from an old service that answered my question.

"There is no life with the absence of suffering. People are obsessed with "the event" of the suffering (e.g., what happened in the past, what caused this, etc.) They get frustrated, stuck and derailed trying to make sense of the senseless. The why question can be a dead end street. It keeps us stuck in the past.

Jesus’ question isn’t Why, but What’s Next? He doesn’t speculate about the cause or the past, He’s concerned about today and tomorrow.

When we've suffered we can stop at the why or we can ask what is next?”

I think the best way to love in suffering is to take my eyes off the event and keep them on Christ.
