Romans 1:16 - Not Ashamed
Here's another power packed verse from Paul. It never ceases to amaze me how he, like Jesus, could say so much in so few words.
Does this verse make you wonder if begin ashamed of the Gospel was a problem at the church in Rome? I know it's been a problem for many Christians ever since! During my senior year in High School I was so embarrassed about going to Bible College that when asked where I was going to college, I just said I was going to a private college!
Lame! Lame and ashamed? In the days to come in our culture the temptation to be ashamed of the Gospel is only going to get larger. Being called narrow minded, bigoted and non inclusive is going to be harder and harder to take, especially for younger believers.
Yet Paul says he's NOT ashamed! Why? Notice he gives two reasons in one verse! It's the Power of God for salvation! Paul knew that only God's power could save anyone! We are all sinners desperately in need of grace and salvation - and it's only in the Gospel that we find this powerful salvation.
Secondly Paul tells us this salvation is for EVERYONE! First the Jews and then us Gentiles, but it is for everyone! Remember that next time someone tells you that you aren't being inclusive!
