Holy Spirit as water instead of as wind
In here, it looks like we have a different image for the Holy Spirit. Instead of wind or dove, it is associated with water instead. Notice some of the water image verbs like "washing" and "pour" in direct or indirect references to the Holy Spirit.
This may also be an indirect reference back to John 3:5, "Jesus answered, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.' " with more detailed interpretation of what Jesus said.
So the point is that we are saved not by work, but buy God's mercy. The Holy Spirit is "poured" upon us and is "washing" us so that we may be "cleaned" (refer back to possible some OT images of clean and unclean) and thus we are presentable to the Holy God and have eternal life.
