In search of hidden treasure
This Psalm is a Hebrew acrostic poem; there are 22 stanzas, one for each successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Each of the eight verses within each stanza begins with the Hebrew letter named in its heading. (Note from Discover God Study Bible, NLT) Wouldn't it be nice to see the original Hebrew in parallel to verify this? What other amazing things are we missing out on because we are "lost" in translation?
I like being able to view two translations/versions side by side to see how similar/different they are from each other.
This is my first contribution and as such I am playing around to find out the limitations and advantages of this contribution process. Hopefully I can update/link this with further findings, like, what is the first Hebrew word in each verse. We know the letter if we are looking at one of the "right" versions. I have found this Psalm makes a lot more sense to me now that I have started looking at eight verse groupings.
What a way to learn God's Word and your alphabet at the same time as a child??? (א, ב ,ג, these read right to left as they would in Hebrew Alef, Bet, Gimel, left to right for us. It is more easily seen in the New English translation on this site.) One truly Amazing Psalm!!!
May we "rock out" as He answers verse 18 as a prayer.
Help us to delight in Your Word to the glory of Your name...
