Genesis 20 LMAP notes
LITERAL (L)
MESSAGE (M)
PERSONAL APPLICATION (A)
PROPHETIC (P)
L = Gerar is east of Gaza, but still towards the coast.
-Abimelech means "father of the king"; it was customary for kings to take the beautiful women of their lands (and kill the husbands If they were married). It's remarkable to realize that Sarah was still a knock-out at age 90 (graceful; maybe even still youthful?)
-Abraham tells a white lie (half-truth) to protect his own hide.
-It appears Abimelech and the Gerarians were a semi-righteous people, having a good heart, though maybe still pantheistic.
-God had punished Abimelech with a deadly disease and closed the wombs of his household, because he took Sarah.
-Abimelech rebukes Abraham for his deception, but then rewards Abraham with wealth, showing that he never touched Sarah.
M = -Don't tell half-truths; they are still deceptions and wrong in God's Eyes.
-Know all the facts before you act. God still holds you responsible for such knowledge.
-Rebuke your brother when he does wrong.
-Make up for any wrong you've done, EVEN IF it was unintentional.
A = Are you telling any half-truths?
Do you know *for certain* that what you are doing is OK? Don't make assumptions.
Do you know a Believer who is living in a lie? Can you rebuke them gently? [Galatians 6:1]
Have you made up for any mistakes you've made recently, even if unintentional?
P = n/a
