The 3 Most Relevant Verses in the Bible for Christian Culture Warriors
If there was ever a word to Christians who are fighting the culture wars - this is it! Why? Because these verses point out exactly what we have failed to do in our confrontation with culture. We clearly have often lacked humility and not only have been seen as judgmental, but have actually been judgmental, and often hypocritical as well.
How many Culture War leaders have not just fallen, but have been found to be doing the very things they have so strongly condemned in others? Hypocrisy indeed.
Paul is pointing us the central fact of human existence, sin. Just because we are saved, and trying to follow Jesus as best we can, we still sin. Period, end of discussion.
Therefore we must approach the entire issue of sin carefully. It is NOT hypocritical to point out what the Bible teaches on moral issues, it's part of a Pastor's or a teachers job! We HAVE to do this, as we carefully strive to teach the whole counsel of God.
However, as we do this we are also required to point out that we are sinners, fellow stragglers and only make progress because of Christ and Christ alone!
As Paul says, God's judgments are are based on truth! Truth that never changes, truth that He alone completely understands and that He alone can uphold.
So what is this forbidden judgment anyway? As I said above, it's NOT point out what is sinful and what isn't. Saying this is bad and that is good is NOT judgment, even though nearly everyone in America thinks it is!
The kind of judgment Paul forbids here is the CONDEMNATION of those who sin! God rejects this, and judges this, because I have no right to condemn a fellow sinner! I can say he's wrong, just as I say that I'm wrong when I'm convicted of my sin. But I dare not say someone is going to hell because only God alone can make that judgment.
When we condemn others we stand in just as much danger of God's awful and powerful judgment as the worst type of behavior that can be imagined.
So let us tread carefully, humbly and lovingly as we seek to speak the full truth of the Gospel in love to our crumbling culture.
