1 Samuel 2:8 MSG

He puts poor people on their feet again;
he rekindles burned-out lives with fresh hope,
Restoring dignity and respect to their lives—
a place in the sun!
For the very structures of earth are God’s;
he has laid out his operations on a firm foundation.

I love how the Message translation says God rekindles the lives of the poor with fresh hope, restoring their dignity and respect, a place in the sun!

We visited a village of the Untouchable Caste this past summer. They lived in mud huts made of garbage and corn stalks. Their homes were smaller than my kids' play house. The job assigned to this village is "rat catcher, and snake catcher." They catch the rats and snakes from farmers' fields and eat them.

This village was desperate, despondant, sorrowful beyond words. Then, God shined a light on it and brought them hope through a few people who camped out with them and built them new homes. Homes that would provide them the dignity they deserved. These people don't have to live in the dirt or under trees with the snakes and rats anymore. They have homes. Joy has returned to this village for the first time in hundreds of years.

God gives dignity to the poor. He lifts them out, and shines on them with his glory and his grace.
