Storing Up God's Wrath
Paul here goes very Old Testament on us. The picture he presents here is sobering, and if you actually pay attention to it will get your attention.
The concept of God's Wrath being stored up is presented many places in the Old Testament. The picture often used is of a cup being filled up by the sins of Israel. Finally the cup is full to overflowing, and then God pours out upon Israel everything they stored up by their sinning. So the judgment is delayed, but it is just, the objects of God's wrath only receive what they themselves have put into the cup by their sinning.
When that day comes, and Paul assures us that it IS coming, God's judgment will not only be revealed, but it will be revealed as righteous, for the reason I outlined above.
God wrath is coming, and you can only escape through our Lord Jesus Christ.
