Pursue Mercy until Jesus returns
Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
In a chapter where Luke is painting 5 portraits of faith, mercy shines forth here. Specifically, pursuing mercy until Jesus returns.
Jesus contrasts the inner attitudes toward God to show that even if you look saintly on the outside, what matters most it God is our heart.
We're to pursue mercy, like the tax collector, for ourselves, as well as, other people.
So what do I do now? I pursue mercy for myself, for those I've wronged, for those who've wronged me, and for those who've wronged other people. In short, I pursue mercy until Jesus returns.
