Abuse has a cure, why don't we use it?
We are discussing the issue of abuse in church today. It is not just a woman's rights issue, it is not just targeting women. Children are obviously targeted, but so are men. You can not necessarily identify an abuser, by race, by dress, by wealth, etc. Why don't they just leave? Better yet, why do they abuse?
The thing that struck me, is that this lady compared abuse to the "swine flu". There is a lot of talk about how this disease is a global pandemic. Key is there is no cure for "swine flu", there is treatment, but the flu is a virus. Compared to the pandemic of world abuse and domestic violence, there is a cure. The cure is in our hands, we can actually do something about it. According to these verses, we actually need to act.
Christ is and will always be the answer. We need to ask that Christ intervene on the behalf of both the abuser and those suffering abuse. We can't just target the abused, we need to redeem the abuser. We need to be able to respond correctly and accurately.
