Because of the fact that the religious leaders of the day didn’t all believe Jesus was who HE claimed to be they wanted to know where He thought that He got His authority from. Jesus knew where HE came from and why he was here but He wanted to them to make a choice pick a side if you will. He asked what they thought about John’s Baptism being from heaven or of human origin. After talked among themselves they thought that the safe answer would be to not answer to not pick a side but to stay neutral. Jesus wanted to them to make up their mind as to who they thought he was so by them not answering His questions Jesus refused to answer theirs knowing that it would have done no good. Jesus himself said in Matthew 5:37 TNIV, “All you need to say is simply 'Yes,' or 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” This reminds me and causes me to ask myself today, “Have I questioned Jesus’ authority in my own life?” Are there areas where He is clear about how I should live my life but I have chosen my own way of doing it? If I do this scripture says I am listening more to our spiritual enemy Satan and the answer I want from Jesus will never come until I decided to fully submit my life in that area to His authority. God Help me!
