Micah 3:1 NASB

The rulers and prophets of Israel were certainly not following the way of the Lord.

They were putting aside God's way and more or less doing what wanted and teaching others their ways.

The Life Application Bible states: The leaders had no compassion or respect for those they wre supposed to be serving. They were treating the people miserable in order to satisfy their own desires. Then they asked for God's help when they found themselves in trouble. We, like the leaders, should not treat God like a light switch to be turned on only as needed. Instead, we should always rely on Him.

Micah stood true to God's word and God's leading. Even though it made him unpopular, only he was preaching the truth. Micah was attributing the power of his words to the Spirit of the Lord. Our power today comes from the same source. We can only be effective witnesses for the Lord when we rely upon the Holy Spirit.

The leaders were also being told to avoid bribes. They were judging, teaching and tell fortunes based upon who would pay. Even today we can say some pastors are accepting bribes when they allow those who contribute a lot of money to control their church. We should not use or resources to influence God's ministers.

The leaders of Micah's day were going to be the cause of the downfall of Jerusalem.
