Arranged Marriages
It's interesting to note that although Rebecca really didn't seem to have a say about becoming Issaac's wife, they did give her the choice about when to leave. She agreed to leave right away.
I've often thought about the advantages of arranged marriages. It takes away the guess work, and eliminates the temptation and broken hearts of the dating game. It would be tough to pull it off in our culture but seemed to work fine back then or in different cultures today. Not really recommending it, just some food for thought.
On another note, I never noticed before that Isaac was meditating in the field that evening. What was he meditating about? Looking at the stars and remembering God's promise to Abraham. Thinking about the time that his dad almost sacrificed him. Feeling lonely after the death of his mother. Whatever his thoughts I am sure that Rebecca's arrival was perfect timing. A match made in heaven. In the end it states that Issaac was comforted. Oh, the powers of a woman sent by God! It is a good thing.
