To Live is Christ
Jesus died for our sins. So when I became saved Alex died and I was born again not as Alex but as a Christian. Or as Paul puts it:
20I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)
5If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. 6For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. (Romans 6:5-7)
So as a Christian now I am different, I am not a normal human being anymore, I am holy and righteous not by works but by grace. But I don't exactly act that way. As Christians we must live like Christ and for Christ all our life (in other words: we should be Christ-like Christians). A great example of this kind of life is Philippians 1:21 where Paul the Apostle (who used to be known as Saul the Osama Bin Laden of the first century) writes to the church of the Philippians while he was in jail facing certain death:
21For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. (Phillipians 1:21)
This is my favorite verse because it shows that Paul cares only about Jesus and the Gospel. And by living like that he began to act like Jesus, love like Jesus, risk his neck for Jesus and do everything possible to make Jesus known to the world.
Since we were talking about Paul and his Christ-centered life we should let his words teach us now on how to be a Christ-like Christian
Paul tells the church more then once to have an attitude like Christ:
27Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel. (Philippians 1:27)
5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
6Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
7but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:5-11)
And I also want my readers (both of them) to see this text:
(19) For I know that this will turn out for my salvation through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, (20) according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but {that} with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. (21) For to me, to live {is} Christ, and to die {is} gain. (22) But if {I} live on in the flesh, this {will mean} fruit from {my} labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. (23) For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, {which is} far better. (24) Nevertheless to remain in the flesh {is} more needful for you. (25) And being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith, (26) that your rejoicing for me may be more abundant in Jesus Christ by my coming to you again. (Philippians 1:19-26)
I want my life to glorify Jesus. I don't want my relationship with God to be the strongest when I am on my knees at the altar; I want my relationship with Him to be become stronger and stronger each day by living for him and loving him. This passage is impacting to say the least. My wish is that every Christian would live like this.
Another thing I would like to point out is that we live for Christ because we love him. And just to remind you we show him the most love by obeying.
15“If you love me, you will obey what I command. (John 14:15)
And that we cant please our God without faith.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)
I hope this blog post was helpful for your life.
