One Righteous Person
This portion of this verse strikes me:
If you can find but one person
who deals honestly and seeks the truth,
I will forgive this city.
I was reminded of Abraham "bartering" with God for the city of Sodom. After asking God to spare the city if 50 righteous people could be found, he worked God lower and lower and lower, until God was willing to spare the city if only 10 righteous people were found.
It makes me think that God is willing to with hold judgment for the sake of a few righteous people. Think about the tribulation. Regardless of your precise eschatology, it seems clear that God's judgment is followed by the removal of his saints.
The application for me is this: Am I being counted among the righteous? Am I righteous in God's eyes to prompt him to forgive my community for my sake?
