And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.

This is an incredibly poignant picture of the Gospel lived out for all believers to consider. Joseph and Mary, filled with awe, at the prophesy given to them by Simeon, at the destiny of the Christ-child. Then comes the "rest of the story." "And a sword will pierce through your own soul also." In other words, the coming of Christ will lead to ultimate peace and joy, but must traverse the path of pain.

Do we really want Jesus - and everything that comes with Him?
