Discipleship Parallelism
1 – Christ’s promise to rule if we abandon all – including discipleship-destroying family ties, if need be.
2 – Sons of Zebedee ask family (mother) to request privilege from Jesus
1 – Willingness to suffer in the world
2 – Gains rulership from God in the age to come (But sons of Zebedee didn’t want denial of self. They craved authority.)
1 – The first will be last and the last will be first
2 – Gentile leadership is self-driven and over-lording.
The greatest in the kingdom deliberately seeks the lowest position on earth. People don’t do this because they really don’t believe the promises of the age to come are better than those in this life.
