Paul is writing that he is a follower by the command of God. He understands what God's will is, to follow Him. But, could Paul also be referring that he has put his life under the "command" of God, like a soldier is under someone else's command? Paul teaching that we follow God, because HE commands us to, and that when we follow God, His will, His wish is our command. So Paul is saying that his life is not his, but Gods, on more than one level!

**On one level, he was following because it was the right thing to do. but he was doing that when he was religious. He was following the laws, to an extreme - he addresses this in a moment. But He was following Christ because it was his passion. He wanted to be a follower. He had total buy in.

**Follow Me - A command known better in Jesus' day. When a Rabbi said "Follow Me" it was an honor, and a command to drop everything and follow. Paul experienced Jesus on such a level that it transformed his life and he placed his new life under God's command willingly. it is not like a draft, and you serve whether you want to or not. Following Christ is a want to life. Not a have to or else I go to hell life.
