The First Step
The act of changing the water into wine is amazing, but at the same time it is almost trivial. Anyone can change water into wine; first grow a vineyard, then harvest the grapes, press them, add some water, and distill. Simple, elegant, but it is a process that man can complete. The amazing nature of the miracle is the instant transformation, which is the purpose of the miracle. Water is a symbol for the holy spirit, which once we, the clay pots, have been filled to the brim, changes into the fruits of the spirit, just like grapes make wine. Once we are filled to the brim with the fruits of the spirit then we are directed by Jesus to be taken to the Lord of Hosts to be poured out as an offering. When we have listened to the master and become full of the fruits and been poured out as an offering we have begun to emulate Jesus. Amazingly this is the beginning of the resurrection narrative, this is where we dive into the salvation that God offers.
