Jesus claims the most amazing attribute about Himself by claiming to be both The Resurrection and The Life. What makes the person of Jesus so controversial is that He's done what others have never done, spoke like no one had ever spoken, and claimed to be someone that NO OTHER god or person could have EVER claimed for themselves. The Greek text of "I Am the resurrection and the life" is "Eimi Anastasis Zoe". Eimi- I AM- "Originate". In other words He is saying "I Am the Originator! I started all this. Look around you for there is no one like Me." Anastasis- Resurrection- "The One standing". In other words He's saying, "Not only Am I risen, I'm still standing. I share my throne with no one!" Zoe- Life- "The Living One who gives life". In other words He's saying "I give life. In Me you live and move and have your being. I Am the Giver and the Taker". Hence, when we consider what Jesus claimed, He wasn't just trying to be original to those around Him, He was and is the Originator! He was only proclaiming who He was and wanted to know if Mary and Martha believed Him. Verse 26 Jesus asked "..Do you believe this?" My question to you is, Do you believe this as well?
