Psalm 86:11

Truth is a way of life.

In yesterday's devotion we talked about buying truth and not selling it. I would like to continue discussing truth today. When we hear the word truth what is our immediate reaction? Most late 20th and early 21st century people think about philosophy and deeper thought. They think about whose truth (whose perspective) is up for discussion? Finally they will conclude that truth is relative and must be defined by the situation. At that point most of us get weary from the debate and accept that they don't have time for deeper philosophical conversation that ends up going nowhere.

In Psalm 86:11 the psalmist says, "Teach me Your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth." The psalmist doesn't seem to be talking about something that is deeply philosophical. He is talking about something that is simple enough that once learned can direct the “walk" of one’s life. Yesterday's verse said that those who live in God's truth get the benefit of wisdom, discipline, and understanding. These are not deep concepts. They are practical everyday concepts. Everyone desires to have more self-discipline and a better understanding of things pertaining to life. The truths of God's Word can directly touch the path we are walking on. That is how intimate and important truth is for our lives.

Are you raising children? Are you in a relationship with another person? Are you struggling with choices and direction? Do you feel confused about what is right and what is wrong?

God desires that His truth speaks directly to your life. He wants to give you clarity about raising your children. He wants His truth to govern the interactions of all your relationships. He wants His truth to clearly show you what your choices and direction should be. God wants every one of your steps to be firmly rooted into His Word of truth.

Finally, as I said yesterday, don't ever forget that Jesus is the truth. On your darkest most confusing day, He needs to be your truth. If you allow Him to be your truth He will lighten and direct your path.

May our prayer today be the words of the psalmist, "Teach me Your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth."

Peace!

Tom
