A young shepherd boy named David had already been anointed by the Prophet to be the next King of Israel, yet he remained in obscurity. The anointing upon his life did not manifest until he faced the Champion warrior named Goliath. Facing the champion on the field of contest is where the anointing of David was revealed. David received three specific benefits for confronting his Nemesis: 1) He received financial reward 2) He received elite status and tax freedom 3) He received the hand of a princess (which meant that he married into the lineage of royalty, access to the throne).

Principle: It isn’t your friends and family that recognize the anointing, the special gifting that marks you. It is your battle, your Nemesis that brings out the anointing in your life.

Conflict is unavoidable.

1. Your Nemesis will always attack you at your weakness not your strength. Where are you weak? You cannot correct what you are unwilling to confront. Don’t be naive about your weakness. Ask someone who knows you. Ask them to be honest. Typically, you should ask someone who doesn’t fear losing you as a friend. Someone who is strong enough to be bluntly honest. Solomon said, “Wounds from a friend can be trusted.”

2. Your Nemesis challenges your resolve and commitment to the prize. Without resistance, the prize is useless. Nothing of great value is ever achieved without facing violent opposition. Press toward the mark of the higher calling. Don’t spend your days taking the path of least resistance. Proof of desire is pursuit.

3. The size of your Nemesis reveals the size of the reward. The promised land was a land of giants, it caused men to quake in fear. Yet, if they would have looked closely at the land it promised huge rewards, large homes, and massive harvests.

4. Facing your Nemesis propels you toward your level of success. David said, “I have fought a lion, a bear, and now I will cut off this man’s head!” David prophesied his future even though he didn’t even take a sword into the battle, he used his enemies sword. Now that’s a man!
