David's worship now turns to the acts of God - the things God has accomplished on behalf of man. Worship is somewhat neutral when we only worship God for who he is. Don't get me wrong, we must worship God for who he is. However, it is when we combine that knowledge with the understanding of what God has done that worship becomes both passionate and expressive.

What is amazing to me here is the ability David has to discern so many things that are attributable directly to God. Most of us have no problem in giving God credit for the things we typically mention in prayer - our redemption, salvation, provision, etc. We often pray in broad strokes - "thank you God for all you did at the cross". Sure it's absolutely true. But look at what David reveals here - he points out that there are so many acts of God worthy of worship that they would be "too many to declare".

This is a man who is in tune and in step with God. This is a man who perceives God and discerns God. This is a man who knows God and appreciates God. This is a man who will never run out of fresh insights in worship. I have to admit I'm a little jealous. As often as I pray on stage in front of a congregation, I find myself repeating things over and over. I'm jealous because I think David would be able to offer prayers that were consistently fresh, exciting, and revealing. Revealing vistas of God's grace. Uncovering the depths of God's mercy. Articulating the expanse of God's provision.

So I realize I have a long way to go. I have much to explore about God's wonders. Where do I begin? I begin at the beginning. (Duh!) At least at MY beginning. Thinking back to the ways that God has directed, provided, chastised, corrected, encouraged, guided and instructed me. Sometimes through circumstances, often through people, frequently through His Word, consistently through His Spirit.

Have you ever heard of Graham's number? It is a number that is so large it cannot be articulated in a conventional system of numeration. It holds the record for the largest number ever used in a serious mathematical proof. All I can tell you is that the LAST 10 digits of this number are 2464195387. Here's the thing: that's the kind of number that David says represents all that God has done. And you can take Graham's number and square it, and you still wouldn't run out of things to say about God's wonders and works. That's the kind of God we worship - that's the kind of God who DESERVES our worship! So start counting, folks, 'cause you've got a long way to go before you run out of things to praise God about!
