Established or Uprooted
The promises God makes to Solomon are amazing. His presence had just filled the temple in such a dramatic fashion that the people couldn't go near it. He promises to always be there, and to establish Solomon's lineage on the throne forever. There was an "if"... if you walk before me as David did.
There was also a "but"... if you don't, I will uproot Israel from the land, from the privileged position that comes as a result of the promise.
History tells us the outcome. Unbelievable that the nation could choose to forsake the glory of God, and His promises.
Since my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, does the promise to establish the royal throne apply to me if I walk before God as David did? Jesus says pretty much says that it does: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”.
So why then can my life be so difficult? When I struggle, is it because I have turned away, forsaken his pathway and worshiped other gods? Is it because I am seeking the things He provides rather than Him?
Lord, show me where I stray from your decrees and entertain other gods. Show me how I can seek you without worrying about what to eat, drink or wear. Please move my focus from me, to You.
