Jesus came to produce this kind of righteousness in our lives. When the devil finished tempting - because Jesus victoriously overcame each temptation - he left. The devil came, tempted, and departed in defeat. Christ aims that we also share in this victory (which, obviously means we share in the same kind of temptations). As Paul said, that we may know him and the power of his resurrection, being conformed to his death. (Phil. 3:10)
