In her defense...
It's easy for us to be upset about how Job's wife responded to everything. But I won't be throwing the first stone. As a wife and mother I can't imagine how she felt when she lost all of her children in one day. On top of that, the next day her husband becomes terribly ill and all she can do is watch him suffer. She probably wanted Job's pain to end and saw death as the only option.
I like Job's response though. He could have gotten angry at her, or told her to leave, but he didn't. He simply pointed out that she was speaking and thinking foolishly, and then shared with her some wisdom. "Can we accept the good things from God and not the bad?"
It's easy for us to get caught up in the foolish worldly mindset that we have rights and deserve happiness and comfort in our lives. The truth is every good thing we have in life is God's grace, and any pain we don't experience is His mercy. Everything else is just a natural part of our sinful and imperfect existence. Praise the Lord for He has much better things in store for us after we leave this world!
