1 Peter 1:1-2 NIV84

"Elect" and "Chosen" ... lots of theological debate and discussion have surrounded these two words. I have been part of that at times. Lately though - I want to just chew on this truth at face value and be amazed at the simplicity of what God wants us to realize. Let's not complicate it.

Think about it. The eternal, all-powerful, all-knowing, never-changing, creator, holy, all-present...God - chose me. Me. I am so not even close to being worthy of a relationship with God. But God still chose me. Me.

I can remember standing against the school wall in 6th grade as teams were being chosen for football at recess. Andy was one of the "captains" who was choosing people to be on his team. Andy was good at football. Andy was fast. Andy was popular. Andy was smart. All the girls liked Andy. How cool would it be to be chosen by Andy to be on his team!

As he would choose, one by one, those to be on his team, I would think, "Pick me. Pick me. Pick me." I so wanted to be on Andy's team. Andy's team always won. And when Andy did choose me - it lit up my life. It made my day. It made my week! I was so grateful. I was on Andy's team. I wasn't just in 6th grade. I was on Andy's team.

God chose me. Not for a game of football played at recess. But to have a relationship with Him. How cool is that? God chose me. Me.

Just let that sink in. If you received Christ - you have been chosen by God - "the" God - to be on His team ... forever. And that starts today. Forget all the complicated stuff that theologians muddy this amazing truth with. Just think ... "God chose me. Me. I am on His team. How cool is that?"
