Acts 6:2 AMP and Acts 6:4 AMP

I used to read this verse and see that serving the temporal needs of people to be of a secondary importance. The Apostles wanted to focus on real ministry.

Tonight as I read these verses again, I am convinced that the Apostle's simply knew what their role in the body of Christ was. They were gifted to communicate the Good news and to pray to see the release of God's Kingdom.
Other's were simply gifted in other areas. (see 1 Cor 12: 12-25)

No act of ministry is more important than another. But each has it's place.
For the Apostle's to walk in all the fullness of their call, they needed space and time to devote to communication, the Word and prayer. For them to spend the majority of their time in other endeavors would be wrong! They would individual perform acts of kindness to widows and the poor... but their focus was on communicating the Word and prayer.

How sweet it will be for Pastors when the church takes it's place... each part fulfilling their function! (And that includes Pastors dropping a whole load of administration too!)
