This is an amazing episode in scripture as we have already seen God free prisoners from jail in a miraculous way before when the Angel of the Lord came and freed peter and John in Acts 4. So naturally as we read this we think this is a happening again but in the form of an earth quake and to Paul and his followers must have thought the same; God has caused this to free us. Even the jailer thought that all the prisoners would have left and figured he might as well kill himself because that would be his punishment anyway. But Paul listening to God and persuading all the other prisoners not to leave knew that this miracle was not for himself but that God did it to save the jailer. Had Paul left this jailer would have died never knowing God, but because Paul stayed and very literally stopped kin from committing suicide he came to know Jesus.

This is such a great reminder for me to look out for what God is doing around me and that what is happening is not always necessarily for me but for someone who needs God. I know God and God has saved me and called me to reach those who are not. So I should be aware of what God is doing and remember how much He loves those who need Him and that He wants to use me to reach them.
