The Spirit (Pneumatology)
The study of the spirit. Pneumatology. You know, after years in school what amazes me almost as much as the study of the actual attributes of the Holy Spirit is the fact that Jesus says in John 16:7-8 that it is to our advantage (benefit or good depending on the version) that he, Jesus himself, leaves so the spirit can come. This leads me to believe that I personally have greatly underestimated the necessity of the Holy Spirit. These words ought to give all of us a reality check to really seek to understand what a healthy, Biblically grounded view of the Holy Spirit is.
I know we live in a world where our views of the spirit are almost more determined by our denominational upbringing than the World of God and that may or may not be healthy. We desperately need to engage the Bible itself to uncover who the Holy Spirit really is.
