As I read the count of the woman who anointed Jesus at Bethany, I was struck by how the disciples reacted. It wasn't the first time they reacted this way and each time before, Jesus corrected them. The woman obviously felt the need to worship Jesus in the most costly of ways she knew--that jar of perfume cost a year's wages--and yet the disciples seemed almost numbed to Jesus' holiness.
I think we too sometimes get that way. We get comfortable around our faith and treat our relationship with Jesus like a relationship with a friend we don't talk to terribly often, though we still value that friendship. In reality, we should be treating our relationship with Jesus as though we are a close friend of the mightiest king of all time. With it should come value, reverence, respect, and humility. The woman at Bethany obviously understood that.
