Come on man! (or men in white robes)
After he said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud hid him from their sight.10 As he was going, they were looking into the sky. Suddenly, two men wearing white clothes stood beside them.11 They said, “Men of Galilee, why are you standing here looking into the sky? Jesus, whom you saw taken up from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you saw him go.”
Yesterday I was able to identify with the disciples and their weaknesses. Now that I am trying to put myself in their shoes (or sandals), I can understand the disciples here just being utterly amazed at seeing Jesus lifted up. I mean “come on” men wearing white clothes (angels). You may see stuff like this all the time in heaven. But even with all the miracles the disciples saw Jesus do they have never seen Him be lifted up to the sky like this. Give them some time or a lot of time to just pinch themselves to see if they weren’t really dreaming. Can’t they at least have a day or so to just sit there and contemplate and process what they just saw? Why suddenly appear? Why not a few hours or even a few minutes later? There is something to “the matter of fact” attitude that the angels have here. Jesus told the disciples that this was going to go down before it did. Maybe they should have connected the dots immediately? Well today I am thankful and humbled to once again identify with these guys. I wonder what these angels response would be to me today if they suddenly appeared.
Lord Jesus, help me to just believe in Your promises because You have told and proved to me over and over again that You are faithful. I don’t just want to live off the times in the past where I have seen You do the miraculous in my life. You have great things in store for me today. Help me to be already anticipating, expecting, and trusting in You so I can connect the dots with You and Your word immediately.
