Gospels Chapter 2
Matthew 2:1-12 ASV, Luke 2:1-40 ASV and John 2:1-12 ASV
Looking over the gospels of Matthew, Luke and John chapters 2 in all we learn 4 key points about our walk with Christ. You can't find what you are not seeking, that even the least are seen as worthy in the eyes of God, when we obey the "law" we are rewarded with wisdom, and that what we have done is not as important as who we can be.First, The Magi where seeking the King in the heavens and constantly reading up on their texts to find the answers to their questions. When they saw the star in the West they traveled what would have been months to see the new King. Have we been reading our texts to find our answers? Have we made month long journeys to find answers or are we settling for the quick route? Do we want to check a box and be done? I pray that you plan out a journey to find the answers that you seek.
Second, the shepards where going about their lowly tasks as the lowest rung of Israelite culture when the angel of the lord appeared to them. I know that we all have had moments where we feel that we are the lowest of the low, but in God's eyes we are all worthy of partaking in his glorious creation. The angel of the lord came to these men to announce the greatest glory of all, so that his name might be spread to all. Are we sharing his good name? are we including the lowest of the low? I pray that we will know that God is including us in his glorious creation story and that we will share his name with all those whom we meet.
Third, as was the custom in that time Joseph and Mary took Jesus to the temple to be an offering as a the first born son. When they went they where blessed by Simeon and Anna with prophetic words. If we today follow in the customs of the saints that have gone before us we will be blessed with wisdom and the occasional prophecy that will lead us to the will God. What traditions lead you closer to the heart of God?
Lastly, The wedding in Cana is a marvelous display that regardless of who we have been we can be much more in the light and glory of the Lord. Jesus at this time is simply a carpenters son, but he makes known the glory of God thru the miracle of converting the water into wine. I discuss this more here http://tinyurl.com/ydngv5y. What miracles are awaiting us as we walk with God in his grace and mercy?
Thank you God for this great story that leads us to seek you out, to know that we are worthy, to follow in the examples that have been given, and to look forward with the hope of salvation. Amen.
