i'm wondering, while reading through the stories i know, and looking deeper, why when in Gen 11:1 it says: "the whole whole world had one language and a common speech," when back in 10:5, 20 the tribes of the sons of Javan, and the sons of Ham were differentiated by language. am i missing a chronological jump between chapters? does the tower of Babel start before these maritime peoples spread? my study bible doesn't say much about it, but i like to know technical things like this, because these are usually the types of questions i get asked from skeptics and seekers who are confused by seeming contradictions.
