Talking the Talk
Proverbs 17:22 ASV, Proverbs 17:27 ASV, Matthew 5:12-14 ASV and Philippians 4:8 ASV
Did you ever notice how many lively conversations are centered around negative things, sinful things, dragging someone, or something, through the dirt, discouraging things, focusing on problems instead of solutions; you name it.I reference Philippians 4:8 on what our thoughts, and conversations SHOULD be centered upon:
"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
(Phil 4:8)
We talk a lot about "doing life," and that's a good thing, but we also have to remember that as Christians our way of doing life is supposed to be as "salt and light," and as a "city on a hill," 'rejoicing and being glad because of our reward in Heaven.' (Matthew 5:12-14)
Maybe if our conversations and thoughts as disciples, saints (someone who is set apart) went more along these guidelines and less along the ways of the world; concerning what makes a lively conversation; would we see what the first church in Acts saw?42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.
"So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved." (Acts 2:43-47)
I guess my conclusion is that GOD considers us wise to choose our words, and when we speak them, wisely; as an external reflection of the thoughts of our hearts; focused on our hope to come. They are part of our witness.
What are we ADDING to peoples lives with our part of a conversation?
