Does God harden our hearts against him?
Moses and Aaron performed these miracles in Pharaoh's presence, but the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he wouldn't let the Israelites leave the country.
According to this passage it seems that God can harden our hearts against Him. This really seems problematic for sinners but we need some more context to understand this passage in its fullness. There has been several times that Moses performed miracles before Pharaoh in order to get him to release the Hebrews. Each time Pharaoh saw the miracles that God was working through Moses but he still told Moses no he was not going to release the Hebrews. In essence he was telling God, "No! I will not release Your people no matter what miracles You perform through your servant Moses." Each time Pharaoh had a chance to listen to God but instead chose not to be obedient. God in essence, gave Pharaoh the desire of his heart, since his desire was obviously not to obey God, God then gave Pharaoh that desire. Now Pharaoh must pay dearly for his disobedience.
How many of us chose to live in sin daily? How many of us harden our hearts against God by the movies we watch, or the friends we chose to associate ourselves with? God will give us the desire of our hearts, so you can either chose God or chose something else. Because God is a respecter of freewill and you chose to sin against His Holy Spirit, you will eventually dull the Spirit and the Spirit will leave you. What a dreadful day that will be! Chose God and be obedient to Him, and He will help deepen that relationship and give you the desire of your heart!
