newcomers
21 "Do not mistreat or oppress a foreigner, for you were foreigners in Egypt.
The Israelites are in the dessert at this time moving from place to place and although God’s plan is for them to ultimately lead them into the Promised Land they will no doubt run into to foreigners along the way. That word foreigners is also the Greek Word ‘gar’ the word for ‘sojourner’ meaning a temporary inhabitant, a newcomer lacking inherited rights. God instructed them to not mistreat them just because they where a newcomer and outside of their community. He reminded them that they where once slaves and foreigners in Egypt.
This scripture shows me how I should view and treat those who do not yet know who God is. It’s a reminder to the church to create ministry environments that are open to those on their journey to finding God. There is nothing more that can be said other than the fact that those of us who do know God where once on that same journey looking in from the outside.
God thank you for reminder me today on how I should view and treat others that have yet to know you.
