1 Corinthians 13:1-13 ASV

Caption – “Love is all we need”

Contents – Don’t put any kind of hope or pride or confidence in any of these three: being able to see the future, being able to speak or pray in tongues, or being really smart about Godly things. None of it matters if you don’t have love. Don’t think your special if you give to the poor or get persecuted for your faith. If you don’t have love, who cares. Here is a list of the qualities of LOVE: it is patient, kind, trusting, humble, modest, selfless, gentle, forgiving, hopeful, faithful and enduring. Here is a list of non-LOVE qualities: it is not impatient, mean, jealous, proud, rude, demanding, selfish, irritable, bitter, faithless, hopeless, or defeated. In the end no one will need to be a prophet or need to speak in tongues or need to be taught anything about God. Because in the end we will see him face to face and it will all make sense. Until then, we need to hang on to the truth, trust that God will do everything he said he will, and love him completely and others deeply. But don’t forget that loving him is the greatest commandment and loving others come in a close second.

Choice Verse – v.13 “Three things will last forever – faith, hope and love – and the greatest of these is love.” (NLT)

Crucial Words – Faith, Hope, Love

Challenges – if I am seeing things imperfectly until I see Christ face to face, how imperfect is my vision really? Is it confusing on purpose or is it because I still do not love as God intended me to love. Said differently, is my lack of understanding my fault, or is it meant to be that way by God’s design?

Christ? – This chapter describes the agape love of Christ.

Central Lesson – Nothing matters unless it is inspired by and realized through love…including those things we do for God or to grow in relationship with God.

Conclusion – There are still some specific qualities of love that I do not live out consistently. I need to continue to grow in love especially in the following ways: patience, modesty, gentleness, and forgiveness. I also need to root these qualities out of me: meanness, pride, rudeness, selfishness, irritability and bitterness.
