wrong god?
24 But the word of God continued to increase and spread. Acts 12:24 TNIV
Herod tried to stop the spread of the Word of God by Peter and those who were turning to Jesus. He wanted to persecute Peter and make a statement as to who he was but an angel rescued him. So he put the soldiers in charge to death to again make a statement of His power. Then finally accepting the praise of the people declaring him a God after he made a public address (which I’m sure he mentioned the execution to put fear in their hearts). It was then that Herod’s life ended at God’s will. This sounds destructive but God made the ultimate statement publically out of love to show the people that He was the one and only true God. Many I’m sure after that day came to know Him.
Although brutal and direct this scripture still reminds me of God’s love for all humanity and His taking an opportunity to show a lost group of people that they had their trust in the wrong God.
It causes me to look at what I am trusting in my life over God. What have I declared as a god that has replaced the one and true God?
