1 John 1:5-10 ASV

So often the body of Christ lives with pride. After being assimilated into a Christian community, we learn to say just the right things so that we can pretend to be a little humble and share our weaknesses without truly sharing anything at all. We become fascinated with the failings of others as we continue to walk in our own darkness. In certain ways, we think we are so clever, deceiving everyone.

However, the truth is, we are deceiving ourselves. What is the point of Christianity? It's not to have a religion, but it's to grow closer to God. "God is light, in him there is no darkness at all." To put up a front and to fool others is doing nothing but fooling ourselves because we think we are fooling others into believing we are good Christians. In fact, we are only fooling ourselves into believing that we are good Christians.

To walk with God in the light means to constantly see our sins and to be transforming our lives to rid ourselves of these sins. As time progresses, we will still have sin because we are all human. But these sins will be different than the ones that you previously struggled through because we are walking in the light. we will find true accountability and fellowship as we genuinely share the troubles and sins of our heart.

We will recognize that Christianity isn't about our image or being proud of ourselves. But it is to be proud of the cross and God's power (and only His power) at work in our lives.
