The Rivers of Revival
Genesis 2:10-15 ASV, Ezekiel 47:1-10 ASV, John 7:37-39 ASV and Revelation 22:1-4 ASV
The move of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer is often likened unto the moving of water. In John 4 Jesus describes the salvation experience to the woman at the well as a "well of living water." In John 7:37-39 Jesus likens the outpouring of the Holy Spirit (the baptism of the Spirit - see Acts 2) as "rivers" of living waters. The law of first mention forces us to look at Genesis 2:10-15. What is interesting is that one of the last things mentioned in scripture is the New Jerusalem with a river flowing down the center of the city. That which has been is that which shall be, God requires the past! In other words, we can look into the past to determine the future.
In Genesis there is one river dividing into four rivers flowing in the Garden of Eden. When you look at the names of these four rivers you can see the desire of God to move in the earth:
1. Pison - Increase
2. Gihon - Breakthrough or bursting forth
3. Hiddekel - Rapid
4. Euphrates - Fruitfulness or productive
The Holy Spirit wants to do this in the Church today. If you take these four words and look at Acts 2, and the chapters following, you will see that this was how the Holy Spirit moved in the early Church. Beloved, the early Church is a perfect picture of revival!
In Ezekiel 47:1-10 God shows the prophet the temple and a river flowing out of it. Here is what I feel the Lord has spoken to me about the move of the Holy Spirit in the last days:
1. The door of religion cannot stop what God wants to do in the earth - vs. 1-2
2. The farther away the water gets from religion the deeper it gets - vs. 3-5
- This is a supernatural river. There are no tributaries feeding it yet it is getting deeper!
3. The river of God's presence brings life to everything it touches - vs. 6-10
4. The river will produce a great harvest - vs. 9-10
