Safety
I love the last part of this Psalm:
9 No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice.
My body rests in safety.
10 For you will not leave my soul among the dead
or allow your holy ones to rot in the grave.
11 You will show me the way of life,
granting me the joy of your presence
and the pleasures of living with you forever.
David takes great comfort in the fact that while he could do like others and chase after other god's and have turmoil in his life - he can rest in comfort in the place God had him (which was not without problems or turmoil) because he was resting in God and God's promise that one day he would be in his Presence forever! No matter what happens down here when we trust God for our deliverance and salvation its what happens up there that matters - because that's where we will be forever!
Where do you place you hope? What makes you feel safe? A family? They could turn on you or get sick and die. A job? They could lay you off at the drop of a hat. Friends? Remember your best friends in high school? Where are they now? There is only one thing we can really take refuge in - the promise of God that we will be in his presence FOREVER when we follow him!
Thank you God for your UNFAILING promise that gives us hope, peace and safety and even when my body is dumped in a box in the ground I know that one day I will come out with a brand new one that will last forever! WOW!
