Jeremiah 37:11 ESV, Jeremiah 37:12 ESV, Jeremiah 37:13 ESV, Jeremiah 37:14 ESV and Jeremiah 37:15 ESV

The siege of the city had been broken and Jeremiah doesn't even say anything, prophecy anything or provoke anything....he just tries to head off and take care of some business (personal business at that). Yet when he tries to leave, they stop him, accuse him of desertion, call him a liar and have him arrested.

In verse 15, I wonder what the heck are the officials upset ("enraged") at Jeremiah for? For walking? For having something better to do than sit around and wring his hands in worry? And they're so angry with him that they beat him?

Have you ever felt like Jeremiah? You're going about your business and somebody who's having a bad day decides it's your fault? I think we've all been there. I can't remember who said it, but this thought rings true.....that "Hurt people, hurt people."

Whatever was going on in Jerusalem had people on edge, upset, fearful, etc. Jeremiah knew God, had heard from the Lord and had a peace and understanding many, if not most, others did not. People were hurting and decided to lash out and hurt others - for no apparent reason.

Next time something happens and you get dragged into the middle of a situation that has you asking, "What the heck?" remember Jeremiah - faithful to God and not fearful or frustrated with men.
