1 Kings 8

1 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the fathers’ houses of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of Jehovah out of the city of David, which is Zion.2 And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto king Solomon at the feast, in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month.3 And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark.4 And they brought up the ark of Jehovah, and the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the Tent; even these did the priests and the Levites bring up.5 And king Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled unto him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be counted nor numbered for multitude.6 And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of Jehovah unto its place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubim.7 For the cherubim spread forth their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered the ark and the staves thereof above.8 And the staves were so long that the ends of the staves were seen from the holy place before the oracle; but they were not seen without: and there they are unto this day.9 There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, when Jehovah made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.10 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of Jehovah,11 so that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud; for the glory of Jehovah filled the house of Jehovah.

12 Then spake Solomon, Jehovah hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.13 I have surely built thee a house of habitation, a place for thee to dwell in for ever.14 And the king turned his face about, and blessed all the assembly of Israel: and all the assembly of Israel stood.15 And he said, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, who spake with his mouth unto David thy father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying,16 Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house, that my name might be there; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.17 Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel.18 But Jehovah said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thy heart to build a house for my name, thou didst well that it was in thy heart:19 nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.20 And Jehovah hath established his word that he spake; for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Jehovah promised, and have built the house for the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel.21 And there have I set a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of Jehovah, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

22 And Solomon stood before the altar of Jehovah in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven;23 and he said, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath; who keepest covenant and lovingkindness with thy servants, that walk before thee with all their heart;24 who hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou didst promise him: yea, thou spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thy hand, as it is this day.25 Now therefore, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me as thou hast walked before me.26 Now therefore, O God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my father.

27 But will God in very deed dwell on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded!28 Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Jehovah my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee this day;29 that thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place whereof thou hast said, My name shall be there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall pray toward this place.30 And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: yea, hear thou in heaven thy dwelling-place; and when thou hearest, forgive.

31 If a man sin against his neighbor, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and he come and swear before thine altar in this house;32 then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his own head, and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

33 When thy people Israel are smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; if they turn again to thee, and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication unto thee in this house:34 then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest unto their fathers.

35 When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them:36 then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou teachest them the good way wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.

37 If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting or mildew, locust or caterpillar; if their enemy besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness there be;38 what prayer and supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, who shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house:39 then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling-place, and forgive, and do, and render unto every man according to all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;)40 that they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.

41 Moreover concerning the foreigner, that is not of thy people Israel, when he shall come out of a far country for thy name’s sake42 (for they shall hear of thy great name, and of thy mighty hand, and of thine outstretched arm); when he shall come and pray toward this house;43 hear thou in heaven thy dwelling-place, and do according to all that the foreigner calleth to thee for; that all the peoples of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.

44 If thy people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatsoever way thou shalt send them, and they pray unto Jehovah toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name;45 then hear thou in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

46 If they sin against thee (for there is no man that sinneth not), and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captive unto the land of the enemy, far off or near;47 yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn again, and make supplication unto thee in the land of them that carried them captive, saying, We have sinned, and have done perversely, we have dealt wickedly;48 if they return unto thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies, who carried them captive, and pray unto thee toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name:49 then hear thou their prayer and their supplication in heaven thy dwelling-place, and maintain their cause;50 and forgive thy people who have sinned against thee, and all their transgressions wherein they have transgressed against thee; and give them compassion before those who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them51 (for they are thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest forth out of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron);52 that thine eyes may be open unto the supplication of thy servant, and unto the supplication of thy people Israel, to hearken unto them whensoever they cry unto thee.53 For thou didst separate them from among all the peoples of the earth, to be thine inheritance, as thou spakest by Moses thy servant, when thou broughtest our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord Jehovah.

54 And it was so, that, when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto Jehovah, he arose from before the altar of Jehovah, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread forth toward heaven.55 And he stood, and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying,56 Blessed be Jehovah, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by Moses his servant.57 Jehovah our God be with us, as he was with our fathers: let him not leave us, nor forsake us;58 that he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his ordinances, which he commanded our fathers.59 And let these my words, wherewith I have made supplication before Jehovah, be nigh unto Jehovah our God day and night, that he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel, as every day shall require;60 that all the peoples of the earth may know that Jehovah, he is God; there is none else.61 Let your heart therefore be perfect with Jehovah our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.

62 And the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before Jehovah.63 And Solomon offered for the sacrifice of peace-offerings, which he offered unto Jehovah, two and twenty thousand oxen, and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of Jehovah.64 The same day did the king hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of Jehovah; for there he offered the burnt-offering, and the meal-offering, and the fat of the peace-offerings, because the brazen altar that was before Jehovah was too little to receive the burnt-offering, and the meal-offering, and the fat of the peace-offerings.65 So Solomon held the feast at that time, and all Israel with him, a great assembly, from the entrance of Hamath unto the brook of Egypt, before Jehovah our God, seven days and seven days, even fourteen days.66 On the eighth day he sent the people away; and they blessed the king, and went unto their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that Jehovah had showed unto David his servant, and to Israel his people.

법궤를 성전으로 옮김

1 그런 다음에 솔로몬왕은 여호와의 법궤를 다윗성 곧 시온에서 성전으로 옮 기려고 이스라엘의 모든 장로들과 각 지파의 지도자들과 족장들을 예루살렘으로 소집하였다.

2 그들이 솔로몬왕 앞에 모인 때는 17월의 초막절이었다.

3-4 이스라엘의 지도자들이 다 모이자 제사 장들이 법궤를 메고 성전으로 올라갔다. 레위인들과 제사장들은 성막과 성막 안의 모든 기구도 성전으로 옮겼다.

5 그리고 솔로몬왕과 이스라엘 백성들은 법궤 앞에 모여 양과 소를 바쳐 제사를 드렸는데 그 수가 너무 많아 다 셀 수가 없었다.

6 그런 다음 제사장들은 여호와의 법궤를 성전 안으로 메어들여 지성소의 그룹 천사 날개 아래 두었다.

7 그 그룹 천사들의 날개가 법궤와 그 운반채 위를 덮었다.

8 그 운반채는 너무 길어 그 끝이 지성소 앞에서는 보였으나 성소 밖에서는 보이지 않았다. 이것은 오늘날까지도 그 곳에 그대로 있다.

9 그리고 법궤 안에는 이스라엘 민족이 이집트에서 나온 후에 여호와께서 그들과 계약을 맺었던 2시내산에서 모세가 넣어 둔 두 돌판밖에 없었다.

10 제사장들이 성소에서 나올 때 갑자기 성전 안이 찬란한 구름으로 가득 찼다.

11 그래서 제사장들은 성전 안을 메운 그 영광의 광채 때문에 자기들의 직무를 계속 수행할 수가 없었다.

12 그때 솔로몬이 말하였다. “여호와여, 주께서는 캄캄한 구름 가운데 계시겠다고 말씀하셨습니다.

13 그러나 내가 주께서 영원히 계실 좋은 성전을 지었습니다.”

성전 건축 후

솔로몬이 백성들에게 한 연설

14 그러고서 솔로몬왕은 그 곳에 모인 이스라엘 군중을 향해 축복하고

15 이렇게 말하였다. “이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 찬양합니다. 여호와께서는 내 아버지에게 약속하신 것을 지키셨는데

16 그 약속은 이런 것이었습니다. ‘나는 내 백성을 이집트에서 인도해 낸 날부터 지금까지 내가 경배받을 성전을 짓기 위해 이스라엘 땅에서 아무 성도 택하지 않았고 다만 내 백성을 다스릴 너 다윗을 택하였다.’

17 “나의 아버지는 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 성전을 건축할 마음이 있었으나

18 여호와께서는 내 아버지에게 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. ‘네가 나를 위해 성전을 건축하겠다는 뜻은 좋으나

19 너는 그것을 건축하지 못할 것이며 네가 낳을 네 아들이 내 성전을 건축할 것이다.’

20 “이제 여호와께서는 이 약속을 지키셨습니다. 나는 여호와께서 약속하신 대로 내 아버지를 이어 이스라엘의 왕이 되었고 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 성전을 건축하였으며

21 또 여호와께서 우리 조상들을 이집트에서 인도해 내실 때 그들과 맺은 계약의 돌판을 넣은 법궤를 위해 성전에 한 장소를 마련하였습니다.”

솔로몬의 기도

22 그런 다음 솔로몬은 모든 군중들이 지켜 보는 가운데 제단 앞으로 가서 하늘을 향해 손을 들고

23 이렇게 기도하였다. “이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여, 천하에 주와 같은 신이 없습니다. 주는 온전한 마음으로 주께 순종하고 주의 뜻대로 살려고 하는 모든 사람들에게 주의 언약을 지키시고 사랑을 베푸시는 신이십니다.

24 주께서 내 아버지에게 약속을 지키셔서 오늘날과 같이 주의 모든 말씀을 이행하셨습니다.

25 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여, 주께서는 내 아버지에게 이런 약속을 하셨습니다. ‘만일 네 자손들이 너를 본받아 내 뜻대로 살면 이스라엘의 왕위에 앉을 사람이 네 집안에서 끊어지지 않을 것이다.’

26 이스라엘의 하나님이시여, 주의 종 내 아버지에게 말씀하신 이 모든 약속이 이제 이루어지게 하소서.

27 “하나님이시여, 그렇지만 주께서 정말 땅에 계실 수 있겠습니까? 가장 높은 하늘도 주를 모실 곳이 못 되는데 하물며 내가 건축한 이 성전에 어떻게 주를 모실 수 있겠습니까?

28 나의 하나님 여호와여, 오늘 주 앞에서 부르짖는 이 종의 기도를 들으시고 나의 요구를 들어주소서.

29 이제 이 성전을 밤낮으로 지켜 보소서. 이 곳은 주께서 경배를 받으시겠다고 말씀하신 곳입니다. 내가 이 성전을 향해 부르짖을 때 주는 내 기도를 들어주소서.

30 또 주의 백성이 이 곳을 향해 부르짖을 때에도 주는 하늘에서 들으시고 그들의 죄를 용서해 주소서.

31 “만일 어떤 사람이 남을 해친 죄로 고발되어 이 성전 제단 앞에 끌려와서 그렇게 하지 않았다고 맹세하면

32 주는 하늘에서 들으시고 옳고 그른 것을 판단하셔서 그가 행한 대로 갚아 주소서.

33 “주의 백성이 주께 범죄하여 적군에게 패한 후 주께 돌아와 이 성전에서 주의 이름을 부르며 용서해 달라고 빌면

34 주는 하늘에서 들으시고 그들의 죄를 용서하시며 그 조상들에게 주신 땅으로 그들을 돌아오게 하소서.

35 “또 그들의 죄 때문에 하늘이 닫히고 비가 내리지 않아서 그들이 이 곳을 향해 기도하고 주의 이름을 부르며 회개하면

36 주는 하늘에서 들으시고 주의 백성의 죄를 용서하셔서 그들에게 바른 길을 가르치시고 영구한 소유로 주신 이 땅에 비를 내려 주소서.

37 “만일 이 땅에 흉년이 들거나 전염병이 발생하거나 병충해나 메뚜기떼로 농작물이 피해를 입거나 주의 백성이 적군의 공격을 받거나 질병이나 그 밖의 어떤 재앙이 있어서

38 주의 백성 가운데 누구든지 자기 죄를 깨닫고 이 성전을 향해 손을 들고 기도하면

39 주는 하늘에서 들으시고 그들의 죄를 용서하시며 그들을 도와주소서. 주께서만 사람의 마음을 아십니다. 각 사람이 행한 대로 갚아 주소서.

40 그러면 주께서 우리 조상들에게 주신 땅에서 그들이 사는 날 동안 항상 주를 두려운 마음으로 섬길 것입니다.

41-42 “또 먼 땅에 사는 외국인들이 주의 이 름과 주께서 행하신 놀라운 일을 듣고 주께 경배하려고 이 성전에 와서 기도할 때에도

43 주는 하늘에서 들으시고 그들의 기도에 응답하소서. 그러면 세상의 모든 민족이 주의 백성과 마찬가지로 주의 이름을 알고 주를 두려워할 것이며 또 내가 지은 이 성전이 주께서 경배를 받으시는 곳임을 알게 될 것입니다.

44 “주의 백성이 주의 명령을 받아 적군과 싸우러 나갈 때에 그들이 어느 곳에 있든지 주께서 택하신 이 성과 내가 주의 이름을 위해 건축한 이 성전을 향해 기도하면

45 주는 하늘에서 들으시고 그들을 도와주소서.

46 “죄를 짓지 않는 사람은 하나도 없습니다. 만일 주의 백성이 범죄하므로 주께서 분노하셔서 그들을 외국 땅에 포로로 잡혀가게 하실 때

47 그들이 자기들의 잘못을 깨닫고 주를 향하여 ‘우리가 범죄하였습니다. 우리가 악을 행하였습니다’ 하고 부르짖으며

48 그들이 진심으로 주께 돌아와 회개하고 주께서 그들의 조상들에게 주신 이 땅과 주께서 택하신 이 성과 내가 주의 이름을 위해 건축한 이 성전을 향하여 기도하면

49 주는 하늘에서 들으시고 그들에게 자비를 베푸소서.

50 그리고 그들의 모든 죄와 잘못을 용서하시고 그들을 포로로 잡아간 자들이 그들을 관대하게 대할 수 있게 하소서.

51 그들은 주께서 용광로와 같은 이집트에서 직접 인도해 내신 주의 백성들입니다.

52 “여호와여, 이 종과 주의 백성이 주께 부르짖는 기도를 들어주소서.

53 주께서 우리 조상들을 이집트에서 인도해 내실 때 주의 종 모세를 통하여 말씀하신 대로 주께서는 온 세상에서 특별히 이스라엘 민족을 택하셔서 주의 백성으로 삼으셨습니다.”

54 무릎을 꿇고 하늘을 향해 손을 높이 들고 기도하던 솔로몬은 이 모든 기도를 마치고 여호와의 제단 앞에서 일어나

55 큰 소리로 그 곳에 모인 군중들에게 축복하며 이렇게 말하였다.

56 “약속하신 대로 자기 백성에게 안식을 주신 여호와를 찬양합니다. 그가 자기 종 모세를 통하여 하신 말씀을 하나도 남김없이 다 이루셨습니다.

57 우리 하나님 여호와께서 우리 조상들과 함께하셨던 것처럼 우리와 함께하시고 우리를 떠나거나 버리지 않으시며

58 순종하는 마음을 주셔서 우리가 그의 뜻대로 살고 우리 조상들에게 주신 모든 법과 명령을 지킬 수 있게 하시기를 원합니다.

59 또 우리 하나님 여호와께서 내가 드리는 이 모든 기도를 항상 기억하시고 나와 이 백성이 매일 필요로 하는 것을 채워 주셔서

60 세상의 모든 민족이 여호와 외에는 다른 하나님이 없는 것을 알게 하시기 원합니다.

61 나는 여러분이 우리 하나님 여호와께 여러분의 마음을 온전히 바쳐서 오늘날처럼 언제나 그의 모든 법과 명령에 순종하기를 원합니다.”

성전 봉헌식

62-63 그러고서 솔로몬왕과 그 곳에 모인 모 든 백성들은 제사를 드려 성전 봉헌식을 거행하였는데 솔로몬왕은 화목제로 소 22,000마리와 양 120,000마리를 드렸다.

64 그 날 솔로몬왕은 성전 앞뜰의 중앙을 거룩히 구별하고 거기서 불로 태워 바치는 번제와 곡식으로 드리는 소제와 그리고 화목제의 기름을 드렸다. 이것은 번제단이 너무 작아 거기서 이 모든 제물을 다 드릴 수가 없었기 때문이었다.

65 성전 봉헌식의 축제는 7일 동안의 초막절을 포함하여 모두 14일 동안 계속되었는데 북으로 하맛 고개에서부터 남으로 3이집트 국경에 이르기까지 이스라엘 전역에서 수많은 사람들이 모여들었다.

66 그 후에 솔로몬이 백성들을 돌려보내자 그들은 왕에게 복을 빌고 여호와께서 그의 종 다윗과 이스라엘 백성에게 베푸신 은혜를 생각하고 기뻐하며 집으로 돌아갔다.
