Job 28
1 SURELY THERE is a mine for silver, and a place for gold where they refine it.2 Iron is taken out of the earth, and copper is smelted from the stone ore.3 Man sets an end to darkness, and he searches out the farthest bounds for the ore buried in gloom and deep darkness.4 Men break open shafts away from where people sojourn, in places forgotten by [human] foot; and [descend into them], hanging afar from men, they swing or flit to and fro.5 As for the earth, out of it comes bread, but underneath [its surface, down deep in the mine] there is blasting, turning it up as by fire.6 Its stones are the bed of sapphires; it holds dust of gold [which he wins].7 That path no bird of prey knows, and the falcon’s eye has not seen it.8 The proud beasts [and their young] have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed over it.9 Man puts forth his hand upon the flinty rock; he overturns the mountains by the roots.10 He cuts out channels and passages among the rocks; and his eye sees every precious thing.11 [Man] binds the streams so that they do not trickle [into the mine], and the thing that is hidden he brings forth to light.12 But where shall Wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?13 Man knows not the price of it; neither is it found in the land of the living.14 The deep says, [Wisdom] is not in me; and the sea says, It is not with me.15 It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price of it.16 It cannot be valued in [terms of] the gold of Ophir, in the precious onyx or beryl, or the sapphire.17 Gold and glass cannot equal [Wisdom], nor can it be exchanged for jewels or vessels of fine gold.18 No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal; for the possession of Wisdom is even above rubies or pearls.19 The topaz of Ethiopia cannot compare with it, nor can it be valued in pure gold.20 From where then does Wisdom come? And where is the place of understanding?21 It is hidden from the eyes of all living, and knowledge of it is withheld from the birds of the heavens.22 Abaddon (the place of destruction) and Death say, We have [only] heard the report of it with our ears.23 God understands the way [to Wisdom] and He knows the place of it [Wisdom is with God alone].24 For He looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.25 When He gave to the wind weight or pressure and allotted the waters by measure,26 When He made a decree for the rain and a way for the lightning of the thunder,27 Then He saw [Wisdom] and declared it; He established it, yes, and searched it out [for His own use, and He alone possesses it].28 But to man He said, Behold, the reverential and worshipful fear of the Lord--that is Wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
욥기 28
1 “은은 채굴하는 광산이 있고 금은 제련하는 제련소가 있으며
2 철은 땅에서 파내고 구리는 광석을 녹여서 얻는다.
3 사람들은 광맥을 찾기 위해 땅을 깊이 파고 아주 어두운 곳을 조사한다.
4 그들은 사람이 사는 곳에서 멀리 떨어져 인적이 끊어진 곳에 갱도를 깊이 파고 갱 속에서 밧줄로 몸을 묶어 흔들거리면서 외롭게 일하고 있다.
5 지면에서는 먹을 것이 나오지만 지하에서는 땅이 불로 뒤집힌다.
6 광석에는 청옥도 있고 사금도 있다.
7 그런 보화를 캐내는 길은 솔개도 모르고 매의 눈도 그것을 보지 못하며
8 사자나 다른 사나운 짐승도 밟아 보지 못한다.
9 사람들은 아주 단단한 바위를 쪼개고 산을 파서 그 뿌리까지 드러내며
10 바위를 뚫어 굴을 내고 보석을 찾아내며
11 1강의 자원을 찾아서 감추인 것을 드러낸다.
12 “그러나 지혜는 어디서 찾을 수 있으며 깊은 깨달음은 어디서 얻을 수 있는가?
13 이 세상에서는 참 지혜를 찾을 수 없으므로 사람들이 그 가치를 모른다.
14 대양이 ‘그것은 내 속에 없다’고 말하며 바다도 ‘그것은 나에게 없다’고 말한다.
15 그것은 금이나 은으로 살 수 없고
16 청옥과 마노와 같은 값진 보석으로도 그 값을 치를 수가 없다.
17 지혜는 황금이나 유리와 비교가 안 되고 순금으로 장식한 보석으로도 살 수 없으며
18 산호나 수정이나 홍옥도 그 가치에 미치지 못하며
19 2에티오피아의 황옥이나 순금도 지혜의 값을 따를 수 없다.
20 그렇다면 그 지혜를 어디서 얻을 수 있는가?
21 그것은 모든 생물의 눈에 숨겨져 있고 공중의 새도 그것을 보지 못하며
22 멸망과 사망까지도 그것을 소문으로만 들었을 뿐이라고 말한다.
23 “하나님만이 지혜가 있는 곳을 아신다.
24 이것은 그가 땅 끝까지 살피시며 천하에 있는 모든 것을 보고 계시기 때문이다.
25 하나님이 바람의 힘을 조절하시고 물의 분량을 측정하시며
26 비의 법칙과 번개가 다니는 길을 정하셨을 때에
27 지혜를 보시고 3그 가치를 시험하여 인정하셨다.
28 그러고서 하나님은 모든 인류에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. ‘나 여호와를 두려운 마음으로 섬기는 것이 참 지혜요 악에서 떠나는 것이 진정한 깨달음이다.’”
