John 4

1 When therefore the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John2 (although Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples),3 he left Judea, and departed again into Galilee.4 And he must needs pass through Samaria.5 So he cometh to a city of Samaria, called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph:6 and Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.8 For his disciples were gone away into the city to buy food.9 The Samaritan woman therefore saith unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, who am a Samaritan woman? (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)10 Jesus answered and said unto unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: whence then hast thou that living water?12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his sons, and his cattle?13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Every one that drinketh of this water shall thirst again:14 but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up unto eternal life.15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come all the way hither to draw.16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.17 The woman answered and said unto him, I have no husband. Jesus saith unto her, Thou saidst well, I have no husband:18 for thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: this hast thou said truly.19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall ye worship the Father.22 Ye worship that which ye know not: we worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews.23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth: for such doth the Father seek to be his worshippers.24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth.25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messiah cometh (he that is called Christ): when he is come, he will declare unto us all things.26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.27 And upon this came his disciples; and they marvelled that he was speaking with a woman; yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why speakest thou with her?28 So the woman left her waterpot, and went away into the city, and saith to the people,29 Come, see a man, who told me all things that ever I did: can this be the Christ?30 They went out of the city, and were coming to him.31 In the mean while the disciples prayed him, saying, Rabbi, eat.32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not.33 The disciples therefore said one to another, Hath any man brought him aught to eat?34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to accomplish his work.35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh the harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white already unto harvest.36 He that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal; that he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.37 For herein is the saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye have not labored: others have labored, and ye are entered into their labor.39 And from that city many of the Samaritans believed on him because of the word of the woman, who testified, He told me all things that ever I did.40 So when the Samaritans came unto him, they besought him to abide with them: and he abode there two days.41 And many more believed because of his word;42 and they said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy speaking: for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.43 And after the two days he went forth from thence into Galilee.44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honor in his own country.45 So when he came into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did in Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.46 He came therefore again unto Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son; for he was at the point of death.48 Jesus therefore said unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will in no wise believe.49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. The man believed the word that Jesus spake unto him, and he went his way.51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, saying, that his son lived.52 So he inquired of them the hour when he began to amend. They said therefore unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.53 So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.54 This is again the second sign that Jesus did, having come out of Judaea into Galilee.

Jesus und die samaritanische Frau: Das Wasser, das den Durst für immer löscht

1 Die Pharisäer hörten, dass Jesus mehr Menschen zu Jüngern machte und taufte als Johannes. (2 Allerdings war es nicht Jesus selbst, der taufte, sondern seine Jünger.)3 Als Jesus terfuhr, dass den Pharisäern berichtet wurde, ´wie groß der Zulauf zu ihm war,` verließ er Judäa und ging wieder nach Galiläa.4 Dabei musste er durch Samarien reisen.
5 Sein Weg führte ihn durch Sychar, eine samaritanische Ortschaft, in deren Nähe das Feld lag, das Jakob einst seinem Sohn Josef gegeben hatte,6 und wo sich auch der Jakobsbrunnen befand. Es war um die Mittagszeit t; müde von der Reise hatte sich Jesus an den Brunnen gesetzt.7-8 Seine Jünger waren in den Ort gegangen, um etwas zu essen zu kaufen.
Da kam eine samaritanische Frau zum Brunnen, um Wasser zu holen. Jesus bat sie: »Gib mir zu trinken!«9 Überrascht fragte die Frau: »Wie kannst du mich um etwas zu trinken bitten? Du bist doch ein Jude, und ich bin eine Samaritanerin!« (Die Juden meiden nämlich jeden Umgang mit den Samaritanern. t)10 Jesus antwortete: »Wenn du wüsstest, worin die Gabe Gottes besteht und wer es ist, der zu dir sagt: >Gib mir zu trinken<, dann hättest du ihn gebeten, und er hätte dir Quellwasser gegeben, lebendiges Wasser t.«
11 »Herr«, wandte die Frau ein, »du hast doch nichts, womit du Wasser schöpfen kannst, und der Brunnen ist tief. Woher willst du denn dieses lebendige Wasser nehmen?12 Bist du etwa mehr als unser Stammvater Jakob, der uns diesen Brunnen gegeben und selbst von seinem Wasser getrunken hat - er und seine Söhne und seine Herden?«13 Jesus gab ihr zur Antwort: »Jeder, der von diesem Wasser trinkt, wird wieder Durst bekommen.14 Wer aber von dem Wasser trinkt, das ich ihm geben werde, wird niemals mehr durstig sein. Das Wasser, das ich ihm gebe, wird in ihm zu einer Quelle werden, die unaufhörlich fließt, bis ins ewige Leben t.« -15 »Herr, bitte gib mir von diesem Wasser!«, sagte die Frau. »Dann werde ich nie mehr Durst haben und muss nicht mehr hierher kommen, um Wasser zu holen.«
16 »Geh und rufe deinen Mann!«, entgegnete Jesus. »Komm mit ihm hierher!« -17 »Ich habe keinen Mann«, sagte die Frau. »Das stimmt«, erwiderte Jesus. »Du hast keinen Mann.18 Fünf Männer hast du gehabt, und der, den du jetzt hast, ist nicht dein Mann. Da hast du die Wahrheit gesagt.«
19 »Herr, ich sehe, dass du ein Prophet bist«, sagte die Frau.20 »Unsere Vorfahren haben Gott auf diesem Berg hier tangebetet. Ihr Juden dagegen sagt, der richtige Ort, um Gott anzubeten, sei Jerusalem t.«21 Jesus erwiderte: »Glaube mir, Frau, es kommt eine Zeit, wo ihr tden Vater weder auf diesem Berg noch in Jerusalem anbeten werdet.22 Ihr ´Samaritaner` betet an, ohne zu wissen, was ihr anbetet. Wir jedoch wissen, was wir anbeten, denn die Rettung ´der Welt` kommt von den Juden.23 Aber die Zeit kommt, ja sie ist schon da, wo Menschen Gott als den Vater anbeten werden, Menschen, die vom Geist erfüllt sind und die Wahrheit erkannt haben t. Das sind die wahren Anbeter; so möchte der Vater die haben, die ihn anbeten.24 Gott ist Geist, und die, die ihn anbeten wollen, müssen ihn im Geist und in der Wahrheit anbeten.«
25 »Ich weiß, dass der Messias tkommen wird«, entgegnete die Frau. (»Messias« ist das ´hebräische` Wort für »Christus«.) t»Wenn er kommt, wird er uns alle diese Dinge erklären t.«26 Da sagte Jesus zu ihr: »Du sprichst mit ihm; ich bin es.«
27 Indiesem Augenblick kamen seine Jünger zurück. Sie waren erstaunt, Jesus im Gespräch mit einer Frau anzutreffen, doch keiner wagte ihn zu fragen, was er von ihr wollte oder worüber ter mit ihr redete.
28 Die Frau ließ ihren Wasserkrug stehen, ging in den Ort zurück und sagte zu den Leuten:29 »Kommt mit, ich habe einen Fremden getroffen t, der mir alles auf den Kopf zugesagt hat, was ich getan habe! Ob er wohl der Messias tist?«30 Da machten sich die Leute aus dem Ort auf den Weg zu Jesus.
31 Währenddessen drängten ihn die Jünger: »Rabbi, iss doch etwas!«32 Aber Jesus sagte: »Ich lebe von einer Nahrung, von der ihr nichts wisst.«33 Verwundert fragten sich die Jünger untereinander: »Hat ihm denn jemand etwas zu essen gebracht?«34 Jesus erwiderte: »Meine Nahrung ist, dass ich den Willen dessen tue, der mich gesandt hat, und das Werk vollende, das er mir aufgetragen hat.35 Sagt ihr nicht: >Es dauert noch vier Monate, dann beginnt die Ernte<? tNun, ich sage euch: Blickt euch einmal um und seht euch die Felder an. Sie sind reif tfür die Ernte!36 Ja, die Ernte wird jetzt schon eingebracht, und der, der erntet t, erhält seinen Lohn; er sammelt Frucht für das ewige Leben. So freuen sich beide zugleich - der, der sät, und der, der erntet.37 Das Sprichwort sagt: >Einer sät, und ein anderer erntet.< Das trifft hier zu.38 Ich habe euch zum Ernten auf ein Feld geschickt, auf dem tihr vorher nicht gearbeitet habt. Andere haben darauf gearbeitet, und ihr erntet die Frucht ihrer Arbeit.«
39 Viele Samaritaner aus jenem Ort glaubten jetzt an Jesus. Die Frau hatte ihnen bezeugt: »Er hat mir alles gesagt, was ich getan habe«, und auf ihr Wort hin glaubten sie.40 Die Leute aus dem Ort t, die zu Jesus hinausgegangen waren, baten ihn, bei ihnen zu bleiben. Er blieb zwei Tage dort,41 und auf sein Wort hin glaubten noch viel mehr Menschen an ihn.42 »Wir glauben jetzt nicht mehr nur aufgrund von dem, was du uns erzählt hast«, erklärten sie der Frau. »Wir haben ihn jetzt mit eigenen Ohren gehört und wissen, dass er wirklich der Retter der Welt ist.«

Jesus heilt den Sohn eines königlichen Beamten

43 Nach diesen zwei Tagen in Sychar ging Jesus weiter nach Galiläa.44 Er selbst hatte ausdrücklich erklärt: »Ein Prophet gilt in seiner Heimat nichts.«45 Doch als er nun nach Galiläa kam, wurde er von den Leuten tfreundlich aufgenommen. Denn sie waren auch beim Fest in Jerusalem gewesen und hatten alles miterlebt, was er dort getan hatte.
46 Jesus kam auch wieder nach Kana, jenem Ort in Galiläa, wo er das Wasser in Wein verwandelt hatte. Dort suchte ihn ein Beamter des Königs auf, der in Kafarnaum lebte und einen Sohn hatte, der an einer schweren Krankheit litt.47 Er hatte gehört, dass Jesus von Judäa nach Galiläa zurückgekehrt war, und bat ihn jetzt, nach Kafarnaum herabzukommen und seinen Sohn zu heilen, der im Sterben lag.48 »Wenn ihr nicht Wunder und außergewöhnliche Dinge tseht, glaubt ihr nicht!«, hielt Jesus ihm entgegen.49 Aber der Beamte des Königs flehte ihn an: »Herr, bitte komm, bevor mein Kind stirbt!«50 Da sagte Jesus zu ihm: »Geh nach Hause, dein Sohn lebt ´und ist gesund`!« Der Mann glaubte dem, was Jesus zu ihm sagte; auf sein Wort hin machte er sich auf den Weg hinunter nach Kafarnaum.51 Er war noch nicht dort angelangt, da kamen ihm seine Diener mit der Nachricht entgegen, dass sein Sohn lebte ´und gesund war`.52 Er fragte sie, seit wann es ihm besser gehe. »Gestern Mittag um ein Uhr thatte er mit einem Mal kein Fieber mehr«, antworteten sie.53 Da wusste der Vater, dass es genau zu dem Zeitpunkt geschehen war, an dem Jesus zu ihm gesagt hatte: »Dein Sohn lebt ´und ist gesund`!« Und er glaubte an Jesus, er und alle aus seinem Haus.
54 Dieses Wunder tat Jesus, nachdem er von Judäa zurückgekehrt war, und er bewies dadurch in Galiläa ein zweites Mal seine Macht. t
